Moderate chance for shower activity in VI during next 24 hours

Residents of the Virgin Islands may want to keep their umbrellas at hand reach as, according to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), brief passing showers may be possible today, February 9, 2021.

It said a moderate to fresh trade wind flow generated by a fairly tight pressure gradient across the area will continue to transport shallow pockets of low-level moisture and maintain a moderate chance for showers activity over and around the islands during the next 24 hours.

Passing showers possible

The weather today will see partly sunny skies with a 60 percent or moderate chance of brief passing showers.

The weather tonight, according to DDM, is fair to partly cloudy and cool conditions with a 20 percent or slight chance of a brief passing early morning shower.

Winds: East-northeast at 19 to 33 km/h or 12 to 21 mph, gusting to 43 km/h or 26 mph over open waters and in elevated areas.

Seas: 1.5 to 2.1 meters or 5 to 7 feet. Small craft operators should continue to exercise caution mainly in waters north and east of the islands.

Sunset today: 6:17 pm.
