More Incidences Of ‘Gross Ills’ In Schools Surfacing – Turnbull

Representative for the Second Electoral District, Hon Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull said more reports of ‘gross ills’ are coming to the fore since a teacher at the Ivan Dawson Primary School in Cane Garden Bay allegedly forced a student to gargle a cleaning detergent.

When the news broke last week, Turnbull said it triggered other incidences to surface.

“There has been some issues overall territory-wide surrounding education. There is the issue with the teacher with the alleged detergent thing, and there are more stories coming out of different schools now of gross ills done with our students,” Hon. Turnbull said at a community meeting at the Enis Adams Primary School last evening, February 4.

He added, “That is something that we have to pay attention to, and we can’t just sweep things under the rug anymore. We have to hold teachers, the system, the education department, the ministry and the government responsible because they are the ones responsible for our children.”

Speaking to the press following the incident at the Ivan Dawson Primary School, Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr Natalio Wheatley said the cleaning detergent incident was being probed and would be reported to the Teaching Service Commission.
