These samples were collected on September 5 and 6 and brings the total number of persons tested to 3,824.

This news comes as the territory has been seeing a spike COVID-19 with cases popping up across the territory.

As of September 7, the BVI has 52 active COVID-19 cases out of a total of 63 positive patients. The territory has recorded 10 recoveries and one death.

In the meantime, Health Minister Carvin Malone said public health officials continue to conduct “aggressive contact tracing” in accordance with World Health Organization’s technical guidance.

“In addition, the Joint Task Force of Her Majesty’s Customs, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, and the Immigration Department, together with the newly instituted Social Distancing Monitoring Task Force established under the Ministry of Health and Social Development, will aggressively discharge their duties in observance of border protection and health and safety protocols,” the Health Ministry said in a media release on Monday afternoon.

Continue practising safety protocols

As those initiatives continue, the public is also reminded to continue practicing the necessary safety protocols such as hand hygiene, cough etiquette, physical distancing and wearing masks in public spaces.

Persons experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 including fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches, or difficulty breathing are encouraged to contact the territory’s Medical Hotline at 284-852-7650 to schedule an appointment for testing.

The fee has been waived except for persons requiring results for travel purposes.
