MP Craig Mackinlay's Recovery from Sepsis and Quadruple Amputation

MP Craig Mackinlay's Recovery from Sepsis and Quadruple Amputation

Craig Mackinlay, a Conservative MP, had his hands and feet amputated after a severe septic shock. His limbs were severely damaged leading to amputation and he now uses prosthetics. Despite the ordeal, he plans to return to Westminster and continue his duties as a 'bionic MP.'
Conservative MP Craig Mackinlay had both his hands and feet amputated last year due to a severe case of sepsis.

Mackinlay was admitted to the hospital in September after experiencing symptoms and was diagnosed with septic shock, leading to kidney and liver failure, blood clots, and severe limb damage.

Following a 16-day coma, his limbs turned black and were eventually amputated in December.

He has since been fitted with prosthetic limbs, including hands costing £100,000 from a private company.

On his return to Westminster, Mackinlay aims to be known as the first 'bionic MP.' His life was saved largely due to the insistence of his wife, Kati, who ensured he received immediate medical attention.

Despite the severe health challenges, Mackinlay plans to continue his parliamentary duties and stand for re-election.
