Nat’l Parks Trust enforcing entry requirements at The Baths
The National Parks Trust has announced that, effective June 3 this year, it will be enforcing its entry requirements at The Baths and Devil’s Bay National Parks on Virgin Gorda.
In a media release on Friday, the Trust cited Section 5 of the National Parks Trust Regulations (2008), which says BVI residents, citizens, and Belongers must present a valid BVI driver’s licence or NHI member identification card to receive free entry into the above-mentioned locations.
“Where a person fails to provide such proof, the National Parks Trust shall be entitled to charge the prescribed entry fee of $3,” the Parks Trust stated.
Residents are were also reminded that any person who enters The Baths and Devil’s Bay National Parks without paying is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months, or both.
This follows government’s move to expand The Baths with the acquisition of Toad Hall Estate.
According to Ninth District Representative and Minister for Natural Resources, Vincent Wheatley, the acquisition represents “five extra acres right next to The Baths to add more activities to the whole Baths experience”.
“The Baths is one of the BVI’s premier tourist destinations but it has been coming under a lot of pressure lately because of the cruise ships having up to like 700 passengers trying to fight through The Baths,” Wheatley said at the time.
