The order will commence from tonight, Saturday, August 7, 2021, and includes new provisions for some restricted businesses to be allowed to operate with the exception of nightclubs and entertainment centres.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) made the announcement last evening, August 6, 2021, and noted that hairdressers, barbershops, spas, restaurants will now be allowed to re-open.
“Such businesses are expected to operate within the established restriction limits of one (1) person per 36 square feet to a maximum occupancy of 50 persons, all-inclusive of staff and patrons,” he said.
COVID-19 measures are still expected to be carried out where all businesses and workplaces will now have a duty to continue to restrict numbers to 1 person per 36 square feet with a limit of up to 50 persons at a time, per location, subject to adequate social distancing protocols being maintained.
The Minister said pre-schools, childcare centres, summer programmes and extra-curricular activities will also be allowed to re-open within the limitations of the social distancing and public health protocols.
Hon Malone said businesses can expect to be subject to spot checks by the Social Distancing Task Force, the Environmental Health Division and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force to ensure that measures are being strictly adhered to regarding the COVID-19 suppression guidelines.
