New prison boss being sought at HMP

New prison boss being sought at HMP

The local government is once again in search of a Superintendent of Prison to head operations at His Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.
A vacancy notice is currently being advertised for the post on the government’s official website.

The vacancy opened on April 3 this year and is expected to run for one month.

News of this vacancy follows the appointment of Guy-Michel Hill as the new head of the prison back in July 2021. He was contracted to serve in the post for two years; which means his existing contract expires on July 3 of this year. It is not clear why the BVI local was not given a longer contract.

The Superintendent of Prison is responsible for the efficient management and operation of the rehabilitation facility.

The prison has struggled in recent years with staffing issues, violent incidents among inmates — at least one of which was fatal, and contraband getting smuggled into the Balsam Ghut-based facility.
