Nine arrested & questioned over HM Prison stabbing death

Nine male inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut, Tortola, have since been arrested and questioned in relation to the stabbing death of fellow inmate Nickail Chambers on the evening of May 30, 2021.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a release today, June 17, 2021, have also indicated that four other inmates were also injured during the incident at the prison.

Officers of the RVIPF's Major Crime Team say investigations are ongoing into the death of Chambers after he succumbed to his wounds.

All other injured inmates taken to the hospital have since been released.

The now dead Chambers was sentenced in the High Court on July 12, 2019, to spend 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm and attempted murder.

Police say charges have not yet been laid in relation to the prison killing.
