No COVID symptoms observed so far! Over 160 tested on JVD in 2 days

Coordinator of the Jost Van Dyke COVID-19 testing initiative, Dr Natasha Frett said some 161 residents have been tested in two days and none have shown any visible signs or symptoms of the virus.

Dr Frett told BVI News via email late Wednesday that 35 individuals were tested on Tuesday and 126 on Wednesday.

“[It] went well,” she stated, adding that the tests were “completed without incident”.

She further said some 27 healthcare workers took part in the initiative and testing will continue today, Thursday, and Friday.

There are roughly 300 residents living on that sister island.

Lockdown due to COVID-19

The island-wide testing comes following a report that an airline passenger travelled from the BVI to St Vincent last Wednesday and tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival.

Following that announcement, the government imposed a 24-hour lockdown that will last at least seven days on the island. This move was to prevent any potential spread of the virus.

All marine activity to and from Jost Van Dyke is restricted unless otherwise approved.

Governor Augustus Jaspert said food and other essential supplies would be provided to those in need during the mandatory lockdown period.
