In fact, with active cases now surpassing 1000, some persons were actually expecting a curfew to be put in place as early as this weekend.
According to Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Carvin Malone (AL), in a COVID-19 update on January 7, 2022, Cabinet has opted against introducing a curfew now; however, he hinted that a curfew is not totally off the table.
Hon Malone said Cabinet will meet again on Tuesday “because we are confident that of our people were to do their part…adhere to the measures that were put in place, there would be no need for curfews.
“But that is in your hands because we have health care professionals that are stricken,” Hon Malone said.
He noted that the contact tracing staff has been reduced to 2 due to COVID-19 infections and that there are currently 13 hospitalisations due to COVID-19.
“We have a situation where if this gets out of hand we have no choice but to implement further measures,” Hon Malone stated, reiterating that Cabinet will meet again on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
