Not Shutting Down Again! Premier Chides Residents Slacking Off On COVID Protocols

Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie has chided non-complying residents for slacking off on certain government implemented COVID-19 protocols like wearing face masks.

The Premier who was at the time delivering his speech to mark the historic reopening of the Virgin Gorda based Taddy Bay Airport, said “we cannot let persons who are going to be careless hold our economy hostage!”

“Let’s not get careless. I do see some slacking off with the wearing of masks, I do see some slacking off in certain areas. You have to adhere to the protocols, we all have to adhere to them because this country is not shutting down again, you will get shut down, but we not shutting down. Full speed ahead,” he yesterday November 23.

He continued: “Everything that could have been done has been done with God’s help, everything that could have been provided has been provided with God’s help. The UK has helped us with vaccines, we have spent over $150 million and doing so many things and getting ready for the next level of how we are going to handle COVID and we are here now and we cannot take retrograde steps.”

Vaccination Stats

Meanwhile, Premier Fahie also revealed the latest statistics on vaccination.

“Today I am happy to report that we have 60.6% of our people have already taken their first jab and I celebrate them and we have 55.3% of our population that has taken both of the jabs and is fully vaccinated, we are getting there but we have to push harder!” he remarked.

In addition, he said before the end of this calendar year, the “Pfizer [vaccine] will be in here and the booster shot will start to be taken.”

He also reiterated that his administration will not make vaccines mandatory, “but we strongly encourage it.”

As per the latest dashboard update released on November 23, there are 12 active positive COVID-19 cases in the territory.
