Nigel Farage will be permitted to host his GB News show during the UK general election, according to media regulator Ofcom.
Despite some public calls to ban politicians from presenting on news channels, Ofcom determined that there was no clear consensus for such a ban.
Farage, who is the founder of the Reform UK party and has the support of 10% of voters in polls, will be allowed to continue broadcasting until election day, as long as he does not run as a parliamentary candidate.
Ofcom's Cristina Nicolotti Squires warned that GB News may face regulatory action if they allow politician
Nigel Farage to present a program during the general election campaign due to impartiality concerns.
The regulator allows channels to employ serving MPs as presenters but found the public is uneasy about politicians hosting current affairs shows.
However, there is no consensus for an outright ban.
The media regulator has announced new rules for GB News, requiring the channel to prevent serving politicians from adopting the style of unbiased newsreaders, interviewers, or reporters during their appearances.
Politicians will still be banned from appearing on the channel during election campaigns.
The regulator has faced criticism for how it enforces its rules towards GB News and concerns over perceived leniency towards the channel compared to traditional broadcasters.
