Oil spill reported @ service station in Fish Bay

An oil spill was reported this morning, August 6, 2020, at the recently opened Petrus Plaza in Fish Bay, according to information reaching Virgin Islands News Online.
Our newsroom was told by persons on the scene that the oil, believed to be diesel, spilled all the way on to the Blackburn Highway.

The Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services was subsequently called in and cleaned up the area.

Fire Chief Zebalon A. McLean confirmed the incident and noted that the spill was brought under control.

Our newsroom also reached out to service station owner, Mr Allison Petrus aka ‘Allie’, who said he was not on site and could not "speak to specifics."

Information reaching our newsroom; however, indicate that the diesel spill was as a result of overfilled fuel tanks.

Sources could not indicate at the time if the fuel filling system has an automatic shutoff.

Petrus Plaza BVI, which includes a gas station named 'PG Gas Station' and a drive through touch-less car wash, opened on January 24, 2020.
