Olympic gold medallist Sherone Simpson is guest speaker for Athletes Gala

The BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA) will be holding its 2019 Athletes Gala today, December 29, 2019 at The Moorings in Wickham’s Cay II, Tortola, where the guest speaker will be multi-time Olympic medallist, Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson.
Simpson arrived in the Territory on Friday, December 27, 2019.

Simpson is a multi-time Olympic medallist, World Championships medallist, Commonwealth Games medallist, PanAm Games medallist, and CAC Games medallist.

She is a gold medalist in the 4 × 100 m relay from the 2004 Olympics and silver medalist in the 2005 World Championships and silver medalist in the individual event at the 2008 Summer Olympics, after she tied for second with Kerron Stewart in a photo finish.

With her personal best of 10.82 seconds in the 100 m, Simpson is ranked 6th among Jamaican women, behind Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.70), Elaine Thompson (10.70), Merlene Ottey (10.74), Kerron Stewart (10.75) and sprint veteran Veronica Campbell-Brown.

The BVIAA Athletes Gala, a fundraiser for the 2020 athletics season, will be held from 5:30am.
