One Love & Lion Heart in top 4 of National League standings

One Love & Lion Heart in top 4 of National League standings

Wins for One Love FC and Lion Heart FC at the weekend threw the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) National League title race wide open, as both teams moved into the top four in the standings.

One love went joint top of the National League standings with their sixth win in a row, a crucial 3-2 victory over title rivals VG United at the East End/Long Look venue on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

“A very good game, a very competitive game,” commented One Love’s Manager Marc Savage.

“They are a young running team, we had to change up our game plan a bit, alter our formation and look to establish control of the midfield. Our goals were beautiful, the victory really pleasing, and feels good to be at the top!” Savage added.

Richard Morgan put his side 1 nil up in just the 18th minute and just before the break Collin Lavia put One Love back ahead after Devante Samuels had levelled for Virgin Gorda United.

In the second half, Sheldon Harry made it 2-2, but Lavia popped up to net the winner to secure all 3 points for one love and send them joint top with Sugar Boys at the top of the standings on 25 points, but technically second with a lesser goal difference.

Lion Heart maul Positive

Lion Heart also had a resounding 7-1 victory over Positive FC, as Tyrone Buddah went joint top of the golden boot race, scoring his 10th and 11th goals of the season.

Lion Heart benefitted from two own goals and also added Shavaugn Thomas, Stevan Williams, and Bison Richards to the score sheet.

With the victory, Lion Heart, who are on an unbeaten run of eight successive games, moved into joint third in the standings, level on points with Wolues FC, but have a long way to go to make up on goal difference, if that becomes important.

Deran Williams scored for Positive.
