Operators told to get livery permit this weekend ahead of cruise rush
The BVI is expected to receive 55 cruise calls in the territory before the year ends and the transportation-for-hire industry is being asked to prepare.
“The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is inviting all interested persons to obtain a livery permit on Saturday, September 18 from 9 am to 12 noon in preparation of the return of cruise ships,” the Transportation Ministry said in a media release this week.
Testing for the permit will be held at the DMV’s location in Pockwood Pond on Tortola.
In the meantime, the territory is expected to see its first cruise ship for the winter season on October 7 when Norwegian Gem arrives. That ship and four other cruise vessels are expected to arrive in October. They are expected to collectively bring more than 5,000 passengers.
Based on the BVI Ports Authority’s latest schedule, 15 cruise calls and 45,000 passengers are expected to arrive in the BVI in November.
More than double the number of cruise calls are expected in December.
