Opposition to hold office hours on Sister Islands for ‘broader engagement’

Opposition Leader Honourable Marlon A. Penn has announced that the Opposition Members will be expanding their reach to the Sister Islands.

He made that announcement on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, during a press conference called by the Opposition.

“I just want to announce that I am opening a new space… the particular announcement will be made shortly. We are also going to do office hours in Virgin Gorda, and Anegada and I am going to join my colleague over in Jost van Dyke to have that broader engagement with the people in this territory as we move forward as the Opposition, as a territory, as leaders of the territory,” he remarked.

Not bashing Government

Meanwhile senior member of the Opposition, Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) said the Opposition is simply holding the Government’s feet to the proverbial fire.

“Our issues with the government I think we have exhibited the patience, the willingness to cooperate with the government and for the government to believe that we are here to bash them, find faults with what they do, not support them, I think that’s a stretch.”

“That’s not our mission, that’s not why we are here, but if we see things that need to be done and fixed, and things are not going right, it’s our responsibility to point them out,” he stated.

In spite of what Hon Fraser has said; however, the Opposition has been accused of complaining and bashing the Government at every turn, while offering no solutions or even acknowledging the good work that the Andrew A. Fahie-led Government has been doing, particularly in this global pandemic.

Further, while the Opposition has complained they are not being consulted, Premier Fahie has stated in the House of Assembly that he has presented opportunities for the Opposition to bring their ideas to the table but the offers have gone a-begging.
