Orlandette R. Crabbe appointed Deputy Chief Education Officer

Orlandette R. Crabbe appointed Deputy Chief Education Officer

The Ministry of Education in the Virgin Islands is in a better position to effectively manage education in the territory, with the appointment of a Deputy Chief Education Officer (DCEO).

The position was filled some two weeks ago, according to Acting Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Agriculture and Fisheries Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) when he made the announcement earlier today, September 30, 2021, on JTV’s live coverage of a ceremony at Ivan Dawson Primary School in Cane Garden Bay.

“Let me take this opportunity to welcome our newly appointed Deputy CEO Mrs Orlandette Crabbe who is into the beginning of her second week of working in the ministry,” Dr Wheatley said.

Workload to lighten for Acting CEO- Dr Wheatley

At the ceremony, where some $30,000 worth of school supplies was presented to the school by the Rotary Club of Tortola, Dr Wheatley explained that with the coming on board of Mrs Crabbe, the workload of the Acting Chief Education Officer Mrs Connie E. George will be lightened.

“And I know that Mrs George who is a very hard worker and has been consumed with everything happening in the Education system now has some more assistance to be able to ensure that the education system is able to confront all the challenges that it is faced with.”

According to the Deputy Premier, the challenges vary and include those thrusted on the territory since 2017, following the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

“From hurricane recovery to COVID-19 to all the other challenges that we have,” he said on the note of welcoming Mrs Crabbe to the team and to attending her first public event since taking up the new post.

‘Wonderful things’ expected

“We expect wonderful things from you, given your sterling history at Joyce Samuel [Primary School] and other places,” Dr Wheatley added.

Prior to taking up the post in the Ministry of Education, Mrs Crabbe served for a number of years as Principal of Joyce Samuel Primary School and previously taught at Althea Scatliffe Primary School where she also held the position of Assistant Principal.

Deputy CEO Mrs Orlandette R. Crabbe (centre-in grey) attended her first public event today, September 30, 2021, since taking up her new post.

Some $30,000 worth of school supplies was presented to Ivan Dawson Primary School by the Rotary Club of Tortola on September 30, 2021.
