Persons reportedly tried to bully Premier Fahie into reshuffling NBVI board

A Board Member of the National Bank of the Virgin Islands (NBVI), along with his 'sidekicks', reportedly tried to bully Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie into reshuffling the board of the bank, the Premier revealed during the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) held at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola, on April 22, 2021.

According to Premier Fahie, while he never acceded to the demands soon after taking office in 2019, he said the Board Member in question continues on a vicious tirade to malign his name, using mediums such as the radio, simply because they did not get what they wanted.

“When we won the election… I saw a fellow came into my office…. with his sidekicks and their words were to me, we help you win the election… and if you want to stay here, you’re going to adhere to our demands,” Hon Fahie told the House.

“The first thing they told me… is that I must move the Head of the National Bank Immediately, and put them as the head of the National Bank,” Hon Fahie revealed.

The Premier said he was unable to agree to the unreasonable demands.

“The next thing that they said, if that's not done, that I must move the Chairman of the National Bank Board and put them Chairman of the National Bank Board.”

Premier Andrew A. Fahie said individual then threatened to resign from the board of the bank once demands are not met.

He said the individual then threatened to resign from the board if the demands were not met, before promising to 'talk until I bring you down’.

Hon Fahie said the individual reportedly wanted to hold him hostage knowing full well what they wanted was not right.

According to the Premier, “Now they're loose on radio stations speaking as if they have information, maligning your name because they did not get what they wanted to get when you got elected,” he said.
