Police renew calls for compliance of curfew order
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is anticipating continued public compliance as the new regulations reduce the curfew hours to four hours. Effectively September 19, the new curfew hours are between 1 am and 5 am which means persons are to be off the road and at their residence before 1 am.
Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool noted her appreciation to the many who have adhered to the curfew regulations and worked with police in restricting movement during the Government-issued order.
“We are grateful to the public for working with us in obeying the new Curfew Order as we partner to reduce the spread of the coronavirus and its highly contagious variants. So far only two persons were found in breach of the current curfew regulations. We remain confident that the community will continue to comply with the regulations which remain in effect under October 3,” she said.
The Acting Commissioner noted the importance that individuals allow themselves sufficient time to get to their final destinations before the start of the nightly curfew at 1 am.
She said during previous curfew restrictions, persons have been found speeding to make it home before the prescribed hour.
“We want to appeal to drivers to exercise even more caution when using the roads in the hours just before the start of the nightly curfew and leave for your destination in enough time to accommodate any unforeseen roadway interruptions. Persons who may need to leave their residence during curfew hours should contact the RVIPF Control Room at 311 or 368-5340 and speak with Duty Inspector prior to taking any action.”
Persons with information of individuals or establishments that are in violation of the curfew order are asked to contact the RVIPF through its three-digit access number 311 or the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
