Politicians lying on campaign trail without blinking — Skelton Cline

The issue of lying politicians on the campaign trail has deeply affected at least one outspoken local commentator and political pundit.
Clergyman Claude Skelton Cline took umbrage as he pointed to the various aspiring politicians and those seeking re-election whom he said continued to lie to the people about their promises and their record of achievement in office.

“When I listen to some of this stuff, I said, man, this is unbelievable. Now, you can lie so articulately, without blinking. We need to get some of these politicians and some of these aspiring, a lie journal,” Skelton Cline said on his Honestly Speaking show yesterday, April 4.

Skelton Cline said this was in order for them to keep track of the many unbelievable falsehoods they have been uttering to the public.

No stranger to controversy himself, Skelton Cline pleaded with the electorate to steer clear of politicians with the gift of charisma on polling day.

“In this election, it’s not about who is the most charismatic. It’s not about who’s the most articulate in this particular election, this particular guava crop. This particular mango season is not about the gifts,” he expressed.

Skelton-Cline continued to argue that the territory was in need of a reset which would see the replacement of the current government, arguing that there are dark and diabolical forces at work that are seeking to pervert and sabotage the destiny of the BVI.

He urged residents to adopt a level of discernment to see through the facade and the smoke and mirrors that he said are heightened around the time of elections.

In the meantime, Skelton Cline said he was delighted about the many women that have offered themselves up as candidates and urged women in the community not to vote against their interests. And while urging them not to ‘player hate’, Skelton Cline pleaded with women voters to support other strong women they believe fit the bill of where the country is at this time.

But despite the many female candidates and his previous predictions about women adopting more leadership roles in the legislature, Skelton Cline in offering his election forecast, pointed to just two women he felt were assured of victory at the polls later this month — Alvera Maduro-Caines (D6) and Perline Scatliffe-Leonard (D7).

Skelton Cline pointed to the two women contesting District Four, Sandy Harrigan-Underhill and Luce Hodge-Smith, but declined to call a victor for that contest over their male opponent, Ian Smith.
