President @ Toastmasters Int'l pays virtual call on Tortola Toastmasters

On January 19th, 2021, the Toastmasters International President paid a virtual call to the Tortola Toastmasters Club of the BVI for the first time. This auspicious occasion occurred at the first meeting of the calendar year, by the Toastmaster of the Evening on January 19, 2021.

This meeting was themed with quotes, such as “You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore” as said by Christopher Columbus.

Richard E. Peck, Toastmasters’ International President for 2020-2021 just knows how to add adaptability and creativity to Toastmasters by creating the Virtual World Tour.

Tortola Toastmasters Club of the BVI was ecstatic to be a club that was selected to participate in the Virtual World Tour. Distinguish Toastmaster (DTM) Richard graced the club with his presence and participated throughout the meeting while delivering an eloquent keynote address speech on “Are you the Barrier to your own success?

For a small club, it was indeed a meeting for the history books as there were over 45 Toastmasters in the virtual meeting. This Virtual World Tour allowed for many members from all around the world; as close as Dominica and New York and as far as South Korea and Singapore and they were all graced with Virgin Islands’ hospitality.

Minutes before the end of the meeting, DTM Richard left a quote with the club which can resonate with many and the quote reads “Opportunity does not knock on the door or ring the doorbell, it plays hide-and-seek. It is up to each of us to seek out the opportunities”

President Portia Stout concluded the meeting with warm and encouraging remarks to the club along with thanking the International President for selecting this club to be a part of the Virtual World Tour.

Tortola Toastmasters Club of the BVI is proud to be a part of District 81 which serves the Caribbean. Division E Director of District 81 Elka Price was also in attendance and hails from Antigua & Barbuda, however, she represents many other territories in Division E such as Anguilla, St. Marten, St. Martin, St. Kitts & Nevis, Virgin Islands of the United States (USVI) and the Virgin Islands (BVI)
