Primary Health Services Return To Rosalind Penn Health Centre | Government of the Virgin Islands

The Rosalind Penn Health Centre has been reopened and will now offer health care services to the communities of East End and Long Look.

The health centre was officially re-opened on Thursday, August 1 following completion of work on the building that was damaged by the hurricanes of 2017.

At a short ceremony, Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone said the hurricanes of 2017 disrupted lives, and the ability to deliver health care services to many communities.

“We are pleased that today we can re-open this facility to deliver care to the persons of Long Look,” Honourable Malone said. He added, “This demonstrates our commitment to delivering care to the community by meeting their needs at their doorsteps, very much like Ms. Rosalind Penn and many others in her time and before her.”

The minister said the re-opening is a new beginning as the BVI Health Services Authority continues to emphasise community health and work toward expanding its services.

He stated, “At this clinic, we will continue to deliver preventative, antenatal, post-natal and child wellness care, family planning, immunisations, chronic medical and acute ambulatory care.  We will continue to strive to meet the health needs of the community.”

Honourable Malone urged the East End community to utilise the services that are being provided. He reminded residents that their health is their wealth and they must do whatever they can to keep their vessels functioning optimally for as long as possible.

The re-opening ceremony was also attended by other members of House of Assembly and the relatives of Rosalind Penn.

Meanwhile, East End and Long Look residents are advised that both clinics will be operating on different days of the week.  On Mondays and Tuesdays, persons can receive services from Iris Penn Smith Health Centre in East End.  On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, the Rosalind Penn Health Centre in Long Look will be providing services. Both health centres will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Appointments are preferred but walk-ins would be welcomed.  There is also an on-call service for after-hours emergencies at telephone number 440-1631.

The BVI Health Services Authority is committed to delivering excellent, compassionate, client-centered healthcare across the Territory.
