Prince Harry to Return to UK for Court Hearing Without Plans to Meet King Charles III

The Duke of Sussex’s scheduled visit amid a High Court case will not include a reunion with the monarch, with the King likely to remain in Scotland
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is expected to travel to the United Kingdom later this month to attend the opening of a High Court trial in which he is involved, but sources close to the British royal family say there are no plans for him to meet his father, King Charles III, during the brief visit.

The legal proceedings, brought against a major newspaper publisher over alleged information-gathering practices, are set to begin around January 19 and are likely to occupy much of Harry’s limited itinerary, according to multiple reports.

— The Times and People report that the King, who has been spending time at Balmoral in Scotland and has no public engagements tied to the court case, is not expected to travel to London for a private reunion with his son.

— This weekend’s developments follow the pair’s most recent in-person meeting in September 2025, their first in more than a year, when they spent time together at Clarence House in London.

Observers note that the monarch typically distances himself from ongoing legal actions involving family members so as not to be associated with such proceedings.

— While the visit is primarily focused on the legal matter, Prince Harry’s continued efforts to restore official armed security protection in the UK could influence future trips.

Insiders have reported progress on that front, potentially allowing Harry’s wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to accompany him on future visits if formal protection is reinstated.

— Despite longstanding speculation about reconciliation between father and son, royal sources emphasise that no joint engagements are scheduled around the court date, with the King likely remaining in Scotland and maintaining a cautious distance from events connected to the trial.

Plans for any future meeting appear contingent on other factors, including Harry’s security status and broader family dynamics, rather than this brief legal visit alone.
