Walz has an eclectic background, having taught in China's Guangdong province and being the faculty adviser for the first gay-straight alliance chapter in a Minnesota school.
Enlisting in the US Army National Guard at 17, he served for 24 years and began his political career in 2006.
He won the gubernatorial elections in 2018 and 2022 and currently chairs the Democratic Governors Association.
