Progress continues on construction of modern market square in RT

Construction of the modern market square in the heart of the capital city Road Town is progressing “extremely well” and when completed will be a “beauty to behold”.

This is according to Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

‘A beauty to behold’- Premier Fahie


The transformed market square will have 16 kiosks, a gazebo, green spaces, restrooms, a bus depot and local monumental artifacts.

“The construction of the new Market Square in Road Town, Tortola, BVI, continues to progress extremely well. When completed it will be a 'BEAUTY TO BEHOLD'. This is good news for the people of the Virgin Islands. Your Government Working For You!” Premier Fahie wrote in a Facebook post today, April 24, 2022.

Construction of the kiosks are currently being done.

‘Our city should reflect a thriving economy’- Hon Rymer


Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project on October 12, 2020, said the project is his ministry’s way of making the city pedestrian-friendly, beautiful and persons who live and visit can have an enhanced experience.

“Our city should reflect a thriving economy; it must reflect who we are, a proud and progressive people. It must complement our status as one of the most beautiful places on the planet and a top tourist destination. It must create the atmosphere that drives success. So, this development is a significant step in stimulating the next level of economic growth and social activities. It is my home that we will achieve support from you the Virgin Islands residents,” Hon Rymer had said.

Foundation for the kiosks have already been constructed.
