Prospect Reef re-development ‘not a hold-up on our end'- Hon Fahie

Premier and Minister for Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has made it clear that the state of the Government-owned Prospect Reef Resort is not a hold-up by his administration.

Residents have often voiced concerns about the state of the run-down facility that was abandoned since the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

However, responding to questions on the Resort during a press briefing on Friday afternoon, January 28, 2022, the Premier said the Resort has some legal hurdles it is going through currently.

“Prospect Reef seems to be an entangled weave; every time you straighten out one thing with Prospect Reef, something else comes in."

Hon Fahie added, "I say it in that parable because there are some legal concerns that have been raised lately, so I wouldn’t want to say anything more about that until we pass that hurdle, which will hopefully be the last hurdle with Prospect Reef.”

Great progress made - Premier Fahie

The country’s leader said great strides has been made however, “We have made great progress although it doesn’t look that way in terms of physical movement, but there was a lot of legal entanglement and measures that we had to get past with Prospect Reef; hopefully this is the last one.”

The Premier also commended the board for all it has done regarding progress at the facility, "it was more of a legal nature with the legal issues that were involved in some areas, so based on the nature we cannot make that public as yet. But we will get there,” he added.

Premier Fahie was questioned on whether there would be any re-development before this current political term is over, he said it is not up to him.

“I would say to the public if I had my way from day one, it would have had development there but when you have legal issues that you have to deal through, it doesn’t work that way you have to yield to the system on how it deals with it and hopefully then we will be able to have something."

The Premier added, "But it is not a hold-up on our end. When we get past it, we will be able to do much more.”
