Public consultations on Integrity in Public Life Act, 2019 ongoing

Public Consultations on the Proposed Integrity in Public Life Act, 2019, continues this week, with the latest being today, May 25, 2021, on Jost van Dyke.

“You have asked us to further strengthen good governance. You want to make sure that public officials continue to work on your behalf in an ethical way. You want us to continue to put measures in place to further strengthen our capacity to detect and prevent any form of corruption by persons in public life,” Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) said in an online post this afternoon, May 25, 2021.

According to the Premier, part of the reason for the bill, is for the Government to be more accountable to the people of the territory.

“That is why your Government introduced the proposed Integrity in Public Life Act, 2019 in the House of Assembly and now we continue to have public consultations on the Bill to establish an Integrity Commission to further enhance the institutions in our beloved Virgin Islands.”

The Integrity in Public Life Bill was a campaign promise of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government.

According to the Premier, part of the reason for the bill, is for the Government to be more accountable to the people of the territory.
