Public schools reopen ‘Online’ Thursday, January 6, 2022

Due to the increase in active COVID-19 cases in the Virgin Islands, it comes as no surprise that there will be no face-to-face schooling beginning this Lent term.

Parents and guardians of students in the public school system were informed on January 1, 2022, that all public schools will reopen for the Lent term utilising the online method.

According to a bulletin from Government Information Service, classes will begin on Thursday, January 6, 2022; however, principals and teachers will begin on Tuesday, January 4.

Education Ministry monitoring situation

As a result of the current status of COVID cases in the Territory, the Ministry of Education is being cautious as they monitor the situation, the bulletin stated.

Our newsroom has been informed that some private schools have already made the decision to have classes online.

As of December 31, 2021, there are 423 reported active cases of COVID-19 in the Virgin Islands, with the majority 322 on Tortola.
