Public Servants racked up @ least $326K in overtime in 2021- SFC Report

According to the report of the deliberations of the 2022 Standing Finance Committee (SFC) meetings, public servants in the Virgin Islands (VI) raked in at least $326,000 in overtime in the 2021 year.

While the report did not give a detailed breakdown of the payment, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities and Member for the Fifth District, Hon Kye M. Rymer queried which department received such a large amount of overtime in a pandemic year.

“He further stated that the government was closed various times over the year, and he was curious to know which department(s) would have reaped from that over time,” the SFC report added.

Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities and Member for the Fifth District, Hon Kye M. Rymer queried which department received such a large amount of overtime in a pandemic year.

No breakdown

Director of Human Resources, Michelle Donovan-Stevens clarified that while some departments are eligible for overtime, she does not have a breakdown of how the cash was earned.

The report of high overtime pay-out comes as legislators continue to complain that there are shortages of staff in key government departments.
