Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has assured residents that they will be able to view and have some input on audit reports recently completed on contracts executed between Claude Skelton Cline and the government since 2019.
Those reports as well as those audit reports on the EZ Shipping barge contracts and House of Assembly (HOA) Assistance grants were recently submitted by the Auditor General.
While speaking in the HOA yesterday, January 26, Premier Wheatley outlined the process expected now that the reports have been submitted.
“The reports will be submitted to Cabinet and then laid on the table of the House of Assembly. The public will have an opportunity to review the reports, such that which will require input so that an action plan can be developed on implementing aspects of the reports as determined,” Dr Wheatley said.
The Premier stated that he has already noticed many meaningful recommendations aimed at strengthening good governance and democracy and said he looks forward to the eventual feedback once the reports are made public.
In the meantime, it was disclosed by the
Commission of Inquiry Implementation Unit that two independent reviewers completed and submitted their reports on the establishment and maintenance of statutory bodies and on a review of the membership of statutory boards.
It was further announced that these will be submitted to Cabinet as ‘information papers’ and brought to the HOA before the relevant ministries begin public consultation on continuing to change the relevant policies and procedures and requesting legislative amendments.
