The Environmental Health Division (EHD) is informing the public of the voluntary recall of approximately 5,760 cases of Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavoured Juice Drink Blend beverages that were contaminated.

A statement by the EHD noted that the recall comes after a diluted cleaning solution, which is used on food processing equipment, was inadvertently introduced into a production line at one of its factories.

Manufacturers of of the the popular beverage, Kraft Heinz stated that only the Wild Cherry flavoured Capri Sun with the following information is potentially affected:

“Manufacturer Code on Pouch — 25 June 2023 WXX LYY ####.
Note: ‘####’ would be between 0733-0900 for products affected in this recall. ‘XX’ maybe 01, 02, 03, 04, 09 or 10. ‘YY’ maybe 01 through 12”.

The Environmental Health Division has contacted the major distributors/suppliers in the Virgin Islands who are making efforts to check inventory and shelves for the recalled item. The division has also conducted an inspection of several mini-marts/grocery stores to ensure that recalled items are not being sold.

Consumers are asked to refrain from purchasing and using the product. They are further advised to return to the place of purchase if they already bought the drink.

Persons are also asked to contact their healthcare provider if they have come in contact with the contaminated product and are feeling ill.

Meanwhile, RiteWay Supermarket released a statement to consumers stating that it does not have the product on its shelves.

“At this time, we do not have any products on hand to confirm whether we are affected by the Capri Sun recall or not. We will update our customers since we have more information available,” the statement said.
