Registered farmer gets Customs exemption for poultry production

Cabinet has moved to exempt local farmer Albert Pickering from paying Customs duties on poultry production equipment for $15,425.99.
Cabinet made that decision during its December 22 meeting, the report from which was only made public last Friday.

That post-Cabinet statement noted that Pickering is a registered farmer and in the business of agriculture.

He is therefore eligible for such an exemption in accordance with the Customs Management and Duties Act, 2010.

The act allows for the exemption of “equipment and machinery approved by the Chief Agricultural Officer and imported for agricultural use by a person certified by the Chief Agricultural Officer as being registered as a farmer and in the business of agriculture”.
