Resignation rumours false! I will serve to full term - Vanterpool

Amid rumours circulating locally that Mark Vanterpool has resigned as the Representative of the Fourth District, the legislator has sought to categorically deny those claims.
In a statement dated Tuesday, June 14, Vanterpool described the rumours as “false”.

“I wish to make it very clear to my constituents of the Fourth District and BVI public that I have not tendered my resignation from the Fourth House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands. In the recent past, I have stated that I do not wish to run for office following this term. It is, therefore, my intention to serve this term in full,” Vanterpool stated.

“I am honoured to continue to serve the constituents of the Fourth District and the people of this territory as a senior member of the Fourth House of Assembly and as a statesman as I have been recently saying,” he added.

The self-styled statesman further said: “I will also continue to advise the Unity Government as best as I can during the rest of this term. Let me repeat, I wish to reassure my constituents in the Fourth District of my commitment to continue to serve in my best capacity for the duration of this term. Reforms for any growing country are necessary.”

And as the territory, particularly government, undergoes a number of reforms triggered by the recent Commission of Inquiry report, Vanterpool told residents that “growing pains are good pains”.

“US Senator from Georgia, Reverend Raphael G Warnock recently wrote his book entitled “A Way Out of No Way”. Let us reflect on those words. I firmly believe our best days are still ahead. There is hope for the Virgin Islands. So, let’s ‘keep hope alive’, according to Reverend Jessie Jackson’s words,” he ended.
