Rihanna describes late Barbados PM as 'true hero'

Bajan pop star Rihanna has paid tribute to the late Barbados Prime Minister, Owen Arthur, describing him on social media as a "true hero".
In an Instagram post, Rihanna described him as “…one of our greatest leaders” and a “true hero”.

She added, “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire nation of Barbados. Rest in Paradise!”

Arthur passed away on July 27, at the age of 70. He was hospitalised in mid-July as he reportedly battled heart complications.

Arthur was Barbados’ longest-serving prime minister, leading the country from 1994 to 2008 under the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

After the 2013 General Elections, Arthur - who was born and raised in the parish of St Peter - announced his retirement from politics and accepted the appointment as professor of practice: economics of development by the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in 2018.
