Rikkoi A. R. Brathwaite takes 60m Bronze @ 2021 NCAA Indoor C/Ships

Newly emerged Virgin Islands top-class sprinter Rikkoi A. R. Brathwaite gave the Virgin Islands much to cheer about when he captured the Bronze medal in the 60m Final of the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville Arkansas on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Representing the University of Indiana, Brathwaite, who went into the championships ranked No. 2 in the NCAA, clocked 6.56 seconds in the race that was won by Oregon’s Micah Williams in 6.49 seconds. Second was senior Raymond Ekevwo of Florida State in 6.54 seconds.

Brathwaite, a junior, had qualified for the final with a second-place finish in his heat, clocking 6.55 seconds in the race that was also won by the freshman Williams (6.52 secs).

Representing the University of Indiana at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville Arkansas, Rikkoi A. R. Brathwaite, who went into the championships ranked #2 in the NCAA, clocked 6.56 seconds in the race that was won by Oregon’s Micah Williams in 6.49 seconds. Second was senior Raymond Ekevwo of Florida State in 6.54 seconds.


NCAA exploits


The Virgin Islander Brathwaite had won the 60m at the 2021 Big Ten Indoor Championships in Ohio on Saturday, February 27, 2021, clocking a Personal Best 6.55 to seconds to break the Big Ten record of 6.58 set last year by Purdue’s Waseem Williams, a Jamaican.

He was No. 1 in the NCAA until Williams ran 6.49 at high altitude the same day.

Brathwaite is No. 9 in the world in 2021.

The Virgin Islander currently holds the record at Indiana University in the 60m.
