Road Town Basketball League returns May 29, 2021

Basketball players and fans alike will welcome the news that the Road Town Basketball League, known as the ‘Town League’, will return on May 29, 2021, after a long hiatus.

The league will be played at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town and will see teams competing in a Junior Division (U18) and Senior Men’s Division.

District format


Each District will be represented in the Open Men’s Division, with District 1 being repped by Guns, District 2 by Mega Mix, District 3 – Filipinas, District 3 - DA 3rd, District 4 - A’s, District 5 - Skillful Ballers, District 6 - Z6NE, District 7 - East Rockers 2.0, District 8 – Hawks and District 9 - VG Bayside Blazers.

The Junior Division teams are 3D District 3, Skillful Ballers of District 5, Bay Youths of District 6 and VG Bayside Blazers of District 9.

According to the President of The BVI Basketball Federation (BVIBF), Mr Derrick R. Varlack, the Federation has been focused on rejuvenating basketball in the Territory.

“We believe that this League will present development opportunities for players across various ages. We have two categories U18 Junior division and Open Senior men's division officially but additionally, we intend to have exhibition games for under 9, under 13 and 40 plus throughout the League occasionally.”

The Road Town Basketball League will be played at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town and will see teams competing in a Junior Division (U18) and Senior Men’s Division.

Bringing back district pride


Mr Varlack also said the new district league is geared towards bringing back district pride through sports.

“Registered are ten senior teams and four junior teams which promises to make for an exciting League which commences on the 29th May. I wish to take this opportunity to invite the public to the games in support of your respective district teams,” Mr Varlack said in a press release on Monday, May 10, 2021.

There will be two games on the League’s opening night. East Rockers and A’s will clash from 6:00pm and Mega Mix and skillful Ballers will tangle from 8:00pm.

The League is sponsored by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
