Rosan-Jones fires back at BVITB - 'I have a right to question the Gov't!'

Following an October 8, 2019 warning letter accusing her of trying to embarrass the country, BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) employee, Rosemary R. Rosan-Jones aka 'Cindy' has fired back at the Board saying she has a right to question the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration.

In a Friday, October 11, 2019 hand-delivered letter to Tourist Board Director, Ms Sharon P. Flax-Brutus and new Chair of the Board Kenisha A. Sprauve, Rosan-Jones requested proof of social media posts where she was found embarrassing her office, Premier Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), in addition to the Government.

In her response, she further said, "Per this letter, I request proof of all media posts that: 1. Spoke negatively of and the names of those persons within the BVI Tourism Portfolio that I called."

In BVITB in their original October 8 letter, said, "As you are aware, the BVITB and the Film Commission is tasked with, among other things, the favourable promotion of the BVI." Without naming a specific post, the letter made reference to social media comments made towards the Premier and the government, "including the Tourism portfolio, and also persons responsible for and operating within that portfolio," it said.

“From where we sit, the BVITB has determined that your posts as an employee of the board has embarrassed the Board and are not in line with the Board’s aim to favourably promote the BVI."

In her letter also copied to Premier Fahie, Junior Minister of Tourism Hon Shareen D. Flax-Charles (AL), BVITB HR Director Carleen Penn and others, Rosan-Jones said she believes the letter is an attempt to silence her.

"I suspect the letter is coming as a directive of the newly elected VIP Administration in their effort to silence me. If this is not the case, then I expect that the director of the BVI Tourism Board will receive the same letter for her outspokenness as it relates to the Government of the Virgin Islands leading up to the 2019 elections," she said.

Legal Counsel

Further, 'Cindy' moved to accuse the BVITB Director of making posts on social media that could have a negative impact on the BVI Tourism product; however, like in the letter from the BVITB, no proof of the post was presented.

"As a voting citizen of the British Virgin Islands, I have a constitutional right to question the duly elected Administration appointed to run the Government," she further added.

In a recent Facebook post dated October 15, 2019, Rosan-Jones declared, "As long as I have breath in my body, I will engage any Administration voted in, to oversee Government business; whether I voted for you or not. However, if I gave you my most precious ‘X’, you’re gonna have even more problems with me."

In taking a legal stance, she said the letter represents a breach of her constitutional rights and therefore, she will seek legal counsel as it relates to the BVITB, its Board, the HR Department, the Director, along with the Chairman of the Board.
