Rotary BVI & SSB partner to raise 50K for FSN

In response to an urgent need by the Family Support Network for funds to purchase food, the Social Security Board and the Rotary Family of the Virgin Islands have agreed to collaborate to raise $50,000.00 in the first instance.
According to a release from the Rotary BVI family, many families in the BVI are experiencing unemployment as a result of COVD-19 which has made it difficult for them to afford basic needs.

Following a meeting with His Excellency Governor Augustus J.U. Jaspert and Deputy Governor, David D. Archer Jr on April 2, 2020, a decision was taken by the Rotary Family to raise at least $50,000 in the first instance.

The BVI SSB has agreed to donate $25,000.00 and Ms Antonette Skelton, CEO of the SSB stated, “we are delighted to partner with the BVI Rotary Family, especially since I have long admired the dedication of several staff members as Rotarians in helping humanity.

"Our own Chairman Mr. Ian Smith has been an active and long-standing member of the Rotary Family. I applaud the Family Support Network for their courage and huge efforts in assisting those in need during this difficult time,” she said.

Mrs Delma Maduro, District Governor of Rotary District 7020 expressed her gratitude to the Social Security Board for partnering with the Rotary Clubs of the BVI in this effort.

She said, “The needs of the numerous families have touched the hearts of Rotarians in the BVI. Even though this is a challenging time for everyone in the BVI and we recognize that many in our community may be unable to contribute at this time, our BVI Rotary Family is determined to assist to the extent that we can. We are indeed grateful to the BVI SSB for their generous support to Rotary in this manner".

Governor Jaspert expressed his appreciation to Rotary for their great support of the Family Support Network, commenting, “I was delighted that we were able to partner with Rotary and FSN to support people facing hardship in our communities."

He continued, "I know that Rotarians are committed to action and have shown this time and time again in coming together to support those who need it. This was another great example and I am extremely grateful to all the local Rotary Clubs and Rotarians who have supported this effort.”
