The Venezuelan attorney general's office announced on Monday that a court has issued an arrest warrant for opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, accusing him of incitement and other crimes amid a dispute over the July election results between him and President Nicolas Maduro.

Attorney General Tarek Saab provided a photo of the warrant to Reuters via the messaging app Telegram. This arrest warrant represents a significant escalation in Maduro's government's crackdown on the opposition following the contested election.
