Russell Brand Faces Potential Charges as CPS Reviews Police Evidence

Comedian investigated for historical sex offences, allegations span 2006-2013
The Metropolitan Police have submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) regarding allegations of historical sex offences against comedian and actor Russell Brand.

The investigation gained momentum after a joint expose by the Sunday Times, the Times, and Channel 4's Dispatches in September 2023.

Brand, who has denied these allegations, was reported to have engaged in rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013 while working in high-profile roles at Channel 4 and BBC Radio 2.

He has been interviewed by police three times under caution.

The CPS will now review the evidence to determine if charges should be pursued.

During the period when the alleged incidents occurred, Brand was at the peak of his career, participating in national TV and radio shows and Hollywood movies.

Claims also include predatory and abusive behavior.

The BBC has acknowledged complaints about his behavior, and Channel 4 has apologized for not properly addressing a 2009 complaint against him.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, emphasized the commitment to investigating historic sexual offences and providing support to the victims.

In light of the investigation, Brand stated in an earlier online interview that the accusations are 'very, very painful' for him.
