Russian Media Falsely Report King Charles III's Death

Russian outlets erroneously spread the news of King Charles III's death, later admitting the likely falsehood of this claim.
The misinformation began circulating on Russian social media and was amplified by Vedomosti's Telegram channel.

Accompanying a photo of Charles, the post erroneously stated the British monarch had died. Despite no official confirmation from the BBC or Buckingham Palace, a forged document indicated an unexpected death on March 18, 2024.

The fake news had reached multiple countries including Ukraine and Tajikistan. Doubts about the truth of the report emerged when Gazeta.Ru modified a tweet to suggest the information could be fake, and a Russian editor questioned the veracity of the claim. Mischievous internet memes soon followed, including a doctored photo of Charles shared with satire by a Russian ministry spokesperson.

Ultimately, the rumor was dispelled by Tass, the Russian state news agency, confirming that King Charles III remains active in his royal duties.
