RVIPF recruits 3 dogs!

RVIPF recruits 3 dogs!

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has added three new female officers to the Force – Lady, Hope, and Blessing!

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins and officers of the K-9 Unit collected the newest recruits from the BVI Humane Society on Friday, August 20, 2021.

The animals were specially chosen to assist officers as part of a Force initiative to expand the unit.

RVIPF Police Constable Zamfir Adams, who is an experienced dog handler, will begin the process of training the three dogs for duty, a press release from the RVIPF today, August 24, 2021, stated.

Background of new recruits!

Lady, who has been at the shelter for the last five months, is a one-and-half-year-old mixed breed. She is full of energy, smart and has a hunting drive. Lady was given up by a couple who was force to leave the island due to COVID.

Hope is a two-year-old black Belgium Shepherd mix who was found in the bushes in the Hope Hill area severely malnourished. After examination, she was found to be free of heartworm and other diseases seen in abandoned dogs. She is intelligent, loyal and smart and was named after the area where she was found.

Finally, Blessing is a one-and-a-half year old female German Shepherd whose owner changed residence and could not have a pet. This one-and-a half year old has been at the shelter for the last four months. She is loyal, friendly and is expected to make a great contribution to the RVIPF search and rescue operations.

The three will join the three other K-9 dogs already part of the unit.
