RVIPF returning to full complement following COVID cases - Top CoP

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (VI) is gradually returning to its full complement of officers, following the self-isolation of some 45 officers who were exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

Commissioner of Police Mr Mark Collins in a July 16, 2021, release said he was happy to note that of the 45 officers on self-isolation, 26 have tested negative and have returned to work.

“We are returning to the complement we had prior to this recent COVID outbreak so we are able to play a full part in restoring the Territory to relative safety. We are prayerfully monitoring the condition of the nine that tested positive and the additional ten on isolation for COVID in hopes that they make a speedy recovery,” he said.

The RVIPF Chief reported that with the curfew passes now in place, the Force can now adequately ensure that persons are abiding by the Curfew Order in force since July 6th.

Some community members not following curfew – Mr Collins

Mr Collins further indicated that while the wider VI community has been largely abiding by the current 7:00 pm to 5:00 am curfew, there is a small number of individuals who are resistant.

He warned, “If you are on the roadways after 7 pm without a new July 2021 police-issued pass, you will be arrested for violation of the Curfew Order. Those who possess the new passes must have them in hand along with identification.”

Further, the Commissioner said that officers will also be ensuring that persons do not contravene any of the other COVID suppression measures as laid out in Public Health Order, 2021 and the COVID Control and Suppression Regulations that establish prescribe social distancing requirements.

The order also requires persons in the VI to continually wear face masks when in public establishments and on public transportation.
