Security Policy Advisor sought amid recent spike in serious crime
Amid a seeming spike in serious crime in recent months, the Office of the Deputy Governor (DG) is seeking to recruit what it described as Security & Justice Policy Advisor.
This advisor will be required to conduct assessments and management tasks to aid in the successful and timely implementation of policies and initiatives to “reform, improve and progress the criminal justice and legal system”.
According to a job posting on the government’s official website, the person hired into this role will also be required to liaise with courts of law to develop an action plan to aid in the reduction of accumulated cases.
The role of this policy advisor is also to support the development of plans related to extradition orders in conjunction with the Governor’s Office and Attorney General’s Chambers.
Among other things, the successful applicant’s responsibilities will also include offering support to the meetings of the Electoral Review Committee, reviewing and monitoring the status of draft cabinet papers with legislative agendas, compiling feedback from the legal fraternity pertinent to the Jury Act, and performing any other related duties as required by the Permanent Secretary and the Deputy Governor in order to contribute to the efficiency of the Office.
The application process for this position closes on May 26. It is not yet clear how new the post is.
Meanwhile, the DG Office’s advertisement of the role is in line with its mandate to provide technical and administrative support to assist the Governor in the exercise of his functions in matters of governance, national security/public safety and court administration.
