Speaking to BVI News via WhatsApp messages on Thursday, CEO of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) Dr Ronald Georges said: “All persons who are admitted as inpatients are screened as before. All persons attending the emergency room will also be screened.”

He continued: “Persons attending outpatient services or community clinics are asked to abide by all social distancing and other protocols as described by the government.”

Meanwhile, security officers stationed at the medical facility further told BVI News during our visit on Thursday that the hospital is only accepting persons with serious emergencies at this time.

Special circumstances

A media bulletin from the BVIHSA on Thursday said visitations will only be allowed “under special circumstances until further notice”.

“This is to ensure the continued safety of patients, visitors and staff. Any inconvenience is regretted,” the bulletin added.

The suspension of hospital visitation privileges came into effect late yesterday when the BVI learnt of its newest COVID-19 case. The patient is currently on an isolated ward at the medical facility.
