Tory MP Simon Clarke has faced criticism from his party for suggesting Rishi Sunak resign as leader, a view dismissed as isolated and harmful by fellow Conservatives.
Clarke warned of a potential electoral defeat for the Tories, but Senior Conservatives, including
Priti Patel, rebuked his stance as indulgent and damaging.
Postal affairs minister Kevin Hollinrake suggested Clarke, seemingly in panic, should calm down in a dark room. Tobias Ellwood called Clarke’s behavior irresponsible, urging unity instead.
Despite the pushback, Clarke, supported by a few others like Dame Andrea Jenkyns, insists on a leadership change to prevent election losses, while Ben Wallace counters, claiming Sunak's focus on the economy is the right strategy.
A no-confidence vote for Sunak hinges on 53 MPs' letters to the 1922 Committee, which so far hasn't been met.
