‘Sixth District's First Gentleman’ Emmett Caines passes

Word reaching our newsroom is that the husband of Hon Alvera Maduro-Caines (D6) has died.

Known as the ‘Six District First Gentleman’ Mr. Emmett Caines passed away last evening Friday, August 26, 2022, sometime after 6:00 PM at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital in Road Town.

After leaving Trident Trust Company (BVI) Ltd, the late Mr. Caines was employed at the H. L Stoutt Community College up to the time of his death, as a Supervisor, Maintenance & Security where there are an estimated 98 employees.

He was stationed at the main Paraquita Bay Campus, on Tortola.

Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines is currently the Junior Minister for Tourism in the Unity Government of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (D7).


Big lost excellent cooking skills


Originally from Nevis, the deceased was at his wife’s side as she was victorious in three consecutive general elections, 2011, 2015, and 2019 representing the people of the six district.

Hon. Maduro-Caines is currently the Junior Minister for Tourism in the Unity Government of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (D7).

The late Mr Caines was also well known for his extraordinary cooking skills and owned a popular catering company E & A Catering.

The deceased was very friendly and respected and had many friends throughout the Virgin Islands and could be found at many social and sporting events. Besides his wife Hon Maduro-Caines, the late Emmett is survived by two children along with grandchildren.

The staff and Management of Virgin Islands News Online join the community in offering condolences to the immediate family and other loved ones of the late Mr Caines.
