“We ran into little speed bumps with the Implementation Unit because the person that we had identified, her organisation did not agree to second her for that purpose,” Premier Wheatley told reporters recently.

According to Dr Wheatley, another candidate is under active consideration.

“That person is considering it right now and once that person gives their approval to move forward, then the implementation unit can be up and running,” he added.

In a recent statement in the House of Assembly, Dr Wheatley said that in order to support the implementation of the recommendations, an Implementation Unit has been established in the Premier’s Office.

“At present, existing staff have been identified for the Unit and I am very pleased for the support that is being provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)”, the Premier said at the time.

He noted then that until plans for the outfitting of the identified physical space are finalised, the staff of that unit will work remotely.

In addition to the Implementation Unit, Premier Wheatley noted that the House of Assembly (HOA) has established a Reform Committee, which will be responsible for the legislative timetable for implementation of COI recommendations.

“The timetable will involve consultation between the HOA, the Cabinet, the Premier and the Governor,” the Premier said.
