St. Croix residents busted with Cocaine in frozen conch @ Airport

Two St. Croix residents appeared in federal court on Thursday facing drug trafficking offenses, after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents found narcotics in frozen seafood.
A release from U.S. for the USVI, Attorney Delia Smith reported that Edward Saldana and Bianca Torres arrived at the Henry E. Rohlsen airport on January 23, bound for Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Spirit Airlines flight #NK 449.

Both were carrying "cooler bags containing individually wrapped packages of frozen conch," according to the statement.

CBP officers inspected the parcels and found four kilograms of a substance which yielded positive results for cocaine after a field test was conducted.

According to court documents, 36-year old Saldana and 34-year old Torres were charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and will each face between five and forty years in prison if convicted.
